Property Vastu

Vastu for flats, houses and plots

Vastu principles apply to different property types — each has its own considerations.

Three measured studies showing a plot, a home plan, and a small office or shop plan
The same directional method can study a plot, a home, or a work space.

Plot Vastu

For a plot of land, consider:

  • Shape — square and rectangular plots are ideal. Avoid triangular, irregular, or elongated plots; an odd shape makes the remedies complex.
  • Slope — a slight slope to the south or southwest is good, letting water drain properly. Avoid a slope to the north or east, which drains positive energy.
  • Approach road — from the northeast is ideal. Avoid an approach from the south or southwest.
  • Water bodies — auspicious on the north or northeast, challenging on the south or southwest. Avoid a plot surrounded by water.
  • Trees — on the north or east bring growth. Avoid large trees on the south or southwest, which block energy.

Apartment Vastu

Apartments are challenging because you can't always follow ideal directions. Adapt these principles:

  • Entrance — if it isn't ideal, activate it with remedies: a lamp, symbol, or water element can shift the energy.
  • Brahmasthan — keep the central area open; if your unit has a central hallway or living space, keep it clear.
  • Rooms — arrange by purpose even when directions aren't perfect. Bedrooms toward the inner area, living spaces toward the entrance.
  • Neighbors — apartment living shares energy with neighbors. Keep your own space clean and positive to limit negative influence.
  • Balconies — treat them as gateways. Activate with plants, lights, or symbols based on their direction.

House Vastu

A house gives you more freedom to apply Vastu principles. Priorities, in order:

  • Entrance placement and activation
  • Kitchen in the southeast
  • Master bedroom in the southwest
  • Brahmasthan open and clear
  • Living areas in the north or east
  • Bathrooms in the south or southeast

If you're building new, let these principles guide the architecture from the start.

Office Vastu

Office Vastu applies traditional directional associations to desks, circulation, storage, and shared work areas. It does not predict business results.

  • Main entrance — ideally northeast or east, for opportunity and growth.
  • Reception — north- or east-facing to welcome clients and energy.
  • Owner's desk — southwest corner, facing northeast or east, for authority and vision.
  • Meeting rooms — east or north for collaborative energy.
  • Server room or storage — south or southwest to keep heavy infrastructure grounded.
  • Break room — north or northeast for refreshment and relaxation.
  • Bathrooms — south or southeast, away from working areas.

Shop Vastu

Traditional shop Vastu studies circulation, placement, light, and symbolic directional associations. It does not predict sales.

  • Entrance — northeast or east is preferred in many Vastu traditions; keep the customer route clear and accessible.
  • Cash counter — some traditions associate the southeast with fire and place active work there.
  • Storage — some Vastu schools prefer south or southwest for heavy inventory.
  • Display — use bright, well-lit areas that customers can see and reach easily.
  • Owner's position — some traditions prefer southwest, facing northeast.
  • Auspicious symbols — Om or swastika for protection and prosperity.
